TE PAE KI TE RANGI IS OPEN TO INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Te Pae ki te Rangi is an impact-first fund.

Impact-first means that we are most interested in the social, environmental and cultural impact created by the enterprises and projects we invest in - but we also need to see a financial return. We primarily invest in organisations based in, or creating value for, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Te Taitokerau (Northland). Te Pae ki te Rangi translates to “from the horizon to the heavens” and refers to the ambition of those that we invest in.

Te Pae ki te Rangi investment fund has its genesis in early 2020 when Foundation North put a call out for a fund manager to co-design and run an ambitious impact investment fund that would deliver on their focus areas.

We met that ambition, combining our experience in investment, developing new business and impact models to challenge the status quo and working with marginalised communities.

What do we invest in?

- Are driven by one or more of:
  – Increased Equity / Hāpai te ōritetanga
  – Social Inclusion / Whakauru mai
  – Regenerative Environments / Whakahou taiao
- Do not have a negative impact on any of the three above.
- Are, or have the ability to be, catalytic in their impact, whether it be transforming a community or transforming a sector.
- A clear pathway to generate sustainable investment returns.
- A deep understanding of the impact you’re looking to create.
- Led by and owned by our priority communities of:
  – Māori
  – Pasifika
  – Rainbow community
  – Forced migrants (ex-refugees)
  – Recent migrants
  – Those living with disabilities
- Based in and focused on Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) and Te Taitokerau (Northland)

We invest in a broad range of ventures from start-ups and new types of business models through to organisations looking to grow or transform their business.

We are open to a range of investment types including equity, debt, quasi equity and project finance, and typically invest between $500K-$2M, based on an investment’s impact, risk and financial return. We also look to co-invest with others and like to bring other values-aligned investors to the table.

Impact is at the heart of what we do. We’re here for conversations that are relational rather than transactional, and seek to be flexible on how we assist through investment and our wider network.
